Make the trip on your own terms

At the end of October, I took a trip to Punta Cana.

For many years, I had been dissuaded from visiting the Dominican Republic due to harsh comments. I listened to the critics and, in doing so, denied myself an incredible experience.

Now, I’m excited to share that deciding to visit was truly one of the best travel choices I've ever made. Let me tell you all about it!

Join me on this journey as I recount how I spent my time. This will be a lengthy blog post, so for the sake of brevity, I will divide the content into five parts.

Here’s part one.

Punta Cana Airport

I had heard that the airport lacked a jetway, which initially deterred me since I’m not fond of walking outside from the plane to Immigration. However, facts triumph over rumors! The airport was well-equipped with a jetway and was both beautiful and functional.

Entry Requirements, Immigration, and Customs

What do you need to enter the Dominican Republic via Punta Cana airport?

First, complete your e-ticket application by clicking this link.

You will need to fill out the application for both arrival and departure. Once you deplane, make your way to Immigration (be prepared to walk, lol).

Standing in line for Immigration and Customs is not my ideal way to kick off a vacation, so I'm always on the lookout for ways to reach my resort quickly. I discovered that Punta Cana airport offers Fast Track Immigration and Customs services to expedite this process. For more information on how to skip those long lines, click here.

I was unaware of this service before my departure but took full advantage of the departure service.

The VIP lounge was spacious, clean, and furnished with comfortable seating and charging outlets for devices. They also provided refreshments, snacks, and beverages (including alcohol). While they don’t announce flight boarding, monitors display the status of flights.

Be aware

Be cautious, as there are many sales agents eager to set up time-share presentations. Just walk past them and continue on your way to find the company that will transport you to your resort.

Avoid following my example by paying attention to negative reviews or gossip. Instead, explore the destination yourself to form your own opinion about the experience.
